Only a “Bear” until the fifth grade

  • I was only a “Bear” until the fifth grade. I do have some fond memories. I received a three foot stuffed bear as a child. My mother (Dorothy Burda) never let me play with the bear. She told me to keep it knew as possible because some day I can tie it on my car for class day. She sang the Blakely Alma Mater with me all the time. So every Christmas when I hear O Tannenbaum, I change the words and can almost smell the oil floors of the Lincoln School and Blakely High School. Even though I changed into a Cougar and crossed the bridge to Jessup I will always remember my early years as a Blakely Bear.
